Margaret Daly - Trust Chairman and Lead Administrator

Margie arrived on Barrier January 2006 looking for adventure and a safe place to live. As a renter she has lived in a number of different parts of the island.

She grew up in Hamilton, raised five children there, home-schooled them for 13 years, built a 240 sqm kit-set house with her husband, and did 20 years volunteering as a gymnastics coach, judge and administrator.

On Great Barrier she has been a volunteer for Aotea Art Gallery, Aotea Radio Station Trust, Pensioner Housing Trust, and St John's Church.

Her main skills lie in the area of administration and funding applications.

She enjoys reading, writing and painting things (rooms, fences), loves doing admin work, and is passionate about helping people.

Raised on a farm in Australia she qualified as a nurse followed by working in offices and banking.

On Great Barrier she has owned a backpackers lodge and worked in hospitality and retail.

She began volunteering in her early twenties. On Great Barrier she has assisted Pensioner Housing Trust, St John's Church, and Kaitoke School. Her main attributes are the experience she brings in the areas of service and governance.

She enjoys reading, hiking, biking, jogging, music in many forms and baking. She is passionate about her Christian faith and loves to share about it with others.

Greg Liggins - Housing Project Facilitator

Bruce is an electrical technician originating from Auckland. He discovered Barrier in 1976 during a short holiday visit, and became a landowner in 2004. He finds the island offers freedom in a lot more areas of life than the mainland, where the rest of his family lives.

He was bestowed a Guardian of the Four Directions and brings the responsibility of this to his life on island. This includes bringing sound governance and thoughtful service to his work for the community.

His interests include scuba diving and being involved in creative endeavours.

He enjoys gardening, cooking, pets, successfully completing work

assignments, and good company.

He has a passion for the opportunity of every new day.

Greg originates from Auckland. He has owned property on Great Barrier since 1980 and started living on island full-time with his wife Mandy in 2015.

He began volunteering in his mid-twenties. On Barrier he originally brought his skills to the work of the Pensioner Housing Trust. He also works with individuals to help people attain their property aspirations.

He brings over forty years experience in residential property development and work with co-housing initiatives to his role.

His life is focused around enhancing the lives of others and the community at large, whether that be leading a workshop on wellbeing, individual counselling, helping neighbours with their housing situations, or giving away some fish he has caught.

Hannah Smith - Administrator

Hannah, originally from the UK, holds a background in architecture. In 2012, she relocated to New Zealand, where she took on the role of project lead, overseeing a variety of infrastructure and engineering projects across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

She has been resident on Aotea since 2019 and lives in Port Fitzroy with her partner and young son on a yacht in Wairahi Bay.

In addition to providing administration support for BFCA, Hannah is the coordinator for Aotea Great Barrier Environmental Trust.

When she is not spending time with her family, you will likely find her near the sea as she loves the water and enjoys swimming, diving or spending time at one of Aotea's many beaches.
